how i work with trauma

I take an integrative approach to trauma therapy, drawing from psychodynamic therapy, somatic therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and other experiential modalities. I work in collaboration with each person, guided by their unique mind-body experience and history. Sessions are 45 minutes and offered virtually across New York.

how trauma therapy can help

In trauma therapy, we begin by creating a sense of safety and pacing the work in a way that feels comfortable for you. We don’t rush into your story. Instead, we move slowly together, paying attention to what feels present and tolerable in each moment.

From there, we gently begin to understand your experience of trauma, including how it has shaped your sense of self, your relationships with others, and your view of the world. We also explore how your nervous system has adapted in order to protect you. Many survival responses once served an important purpose, and part of this work is honoring that while also beginning to soften patterns that may no longer be serving you.

Alongside this, we focus on how these patterns show up in present-day experiences. This can include noticing triggers and trauma responses, and learning how to track your internal cues with more curiosity and less overwhelm. We also work on building capacity for grounding, regulation, and a felt sense of safety within yourself.

Over time, this process can help you feel more integrated, less defined by what happened to you, and more connected to your present experience. The goal is not to erase the past, but to help your system no longer feel as if it is still living in it, so there is more space for steadiness and choice.

If this resonates with you, I invite you to reach out to see if working together feels like a good fit.
